About NMSDC

Founded in 1972, the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) is the longest-operating business growth engine for the broadest group of systematically excluded communities of color (Asian-Indian, Asian-Pacific, Black, Hispanic, and Native American), and our impact goes far beyond supply chain. It’s about upward mobility for the emerging majority of Americans, an equal shot at participating in the American experiment of free-market capitalism and entrepreneurship. Our work is about correcting the unequal access to wealth-building opportunities.

Our Mission

To serve as a growth engine for NMSDC certified minority businesses and enable our members to advance economic equity.

We create connections between minority business enterprises (MBEs) and corporations, MBEs and the public sector, and MBEs and other MBEs, to help them benefit from each other, stoking entrepreneurship and growing wealth for these systemically excluded communities.

Our Vision

To be the leading organization for driving socioeconomic equity and generational wealth in communities of color.

We build capacity and capabilities through our programs and other educational offerings that help close the wealth gap, the key to creating a more united and prosperous society for all.

Our Impact

For the last 50 years, NMSDC has been advocating access to the American dream for MBEs.

Our success is historic and unmatched: over 16,000 MBEs connected to more than 1,700 corporations, resulting in $482.1 billion in economic output annually, sustaining 1.8 million jobs, with $136.4 billion in total wages earned. We are the nation’s largest, most impactful, and most successful nonprofit advocacy organization for MBEs, proving growth for MBEs is growth for all.

Our Core Values

To serve as a growth engine for NMSDC-certified MBEs, we uphold the following core values:

  • We institute creative problem-solving techniques to ensure every perspective and option has been considered before moving forward with a solution and to drive excellence.
  • We believe in thoughtful collaboration, understanding that every action we take, either solo or as a collective, impacts the rest of the NMSDC team and the NMSDC Network.
  • As we ask our MBEs to adapt to the ever-changing economic landscape, we too must remain adaptable to ensure we meet the needs of our stakeholders at every turn.
  • To grow and connect MBEs, we must be future-focused, not only understanding the landscape of today but where that landscape may shift in another 5 to 10 years.
  • We must remain steadfast and resilient to ensure we can continue to support MBEs when and where they need us.

Our Network

NMSDC is supported by 23 regional affiliates and many strategic partners nationwide which work in the field to ensure our 16,000+ certified MBEs reach their full potential with our 1,700+ corporate members.

Additionally, NMSDC expands our network overseas through the Global-Link International Program. We work with nongovernmental organizations in other countries to replicate the NMSDC model and link historically-excluded populations with corporate purchasing entities to create mutually-beneficial economic partnerships.

These international partner organizations are a gateway for U.S.-based MBEs to meet international MBEs who may be potential partners to help them gain access to the global marketplace.

Our Bylaws

NMSDC is a not-for-profit corporation incorporated in Illinois and governed by the following bylaws (last updated: October 23, 2023). If you have any questions regarding NMSDC governance, please email us at info@nmsdc.org.
