A Message from the NMSDC CEO and President: Rising to the Moment and Shaping Our Future Together

연결

Let’s be honest — things are complicated right now. We’re all feeling it. The uncertainty, the shifting landscape, and the pressures coming from every direction — executive orders, legal challenges, shareholder demands and consumer expectations for our corporate members, and media narratives moving at lightning speed. It’s a lot. And if you’re feeling the weight of it, you’re not alone.

But here’s the thing: every great journey has these moments — the turning points where uncertainty gives way to opportunity. It’s in these challenging times that innovation happens, new partnerships form and opportunities arise. Right now, we’re standing at one of those moments. The question is: how will we rise and write this next chapter together?

Over the past few weeks, our two stakeholder town halls brought together more than 2,200 attendees — corporate leaders, MBEs, affiliate partners, and allies — who engaged in open, honest conversations. Your thoughtful comments and deep engagement reminded me of something powerful. This community cares. We all want to see MBEs grow, corporate members stay competitive, and our economy thrive.

Two weeks ago, our board came together for its annual retreat, dedicating two full days to envisioning NMSDC’s future. At a time when uncertainty is everywhere, I am struck by the unity and focus of our board members. Despite their demanding roles, they came together with a clear understanding:

Our mission is a business imperative.

It’s about connecting MBEs to meaningful opportunities and linking corporate members with competitive, innovative suppliers who strengthen value chains. It’s about economic success for all of us.

As we look at where we are and where we want to be, setting clear priorities is essential. Below are the priorities we’re focusing on in 2025 to make the greatest impact:

2025 Priorities: Clear, Focused, Impactful

  1. Equipping MBEs and Corporate Members with Actionable Insights
We recognize that our stakeholders — corporate members, MBEs, regional affiliates, and our own team — are all navigating uncertain terrain. That’s why we are prioritizing tools and resources that equip MBEs and corporate members with the actionable insights and tools needed to navigate these times. 2. Connecting MBEs to Opportunities
We’re committed to enhancing ecosystems where corporate competitiveness and MBE growth go hand in hand. Growth for MBEs means growth for our economy — when one succeeds, we all succeed.
  3. Strengthening Our Voice in Washington, D.C.
We’re identifying a public policy leader who will stand for our interests in Washington, ensuring our voice is heard. We also plan to deepen partnerships with state and local governments by working closely with our regional partners to strengthen our influence and expand opportunities.
  4. A New Centralized Certification Process
In 2025, we’re simplifying and centralizing our certification process. This will reduce the burden on MBEs while ensuring accuracy and consistency. It’s a giant leap forward in efficiency, making it easier for MBEs to access opportunities and for corporations to find the suppliers they need.|
  5. A Cohesive Network Centered on MBEs and Corporate Success
Let’s be real: our network isn’t perfect. For too long, we’ve navigated tough, decades-old challenges that have held us back. The need to unite our network has never been more urgent. Because when we’re united, we’re unstoppable.

In the coming weeks, we’ll convene a session to share how we’re uniting our network, resolving long-standing issues, and aligning with partners who share our vision, are committed to accountability, and are focused on delivering results. It’s time to turn the page and move forward together.

Looking Ahead: A Vision Worth Building

The next chapter we’re writing together is bold. We’re setting our sights on a future where MBEs collectively generate $1 trillion in annual revenue, creating a $1.5 trillion economic impact.

These aren’t just big numbers; they represent generational wealth, thriving communities, and a stronger economy for everyone. But here’s the catch: we won’t get there if we’re pulling in different directions. Unity isn’t a nice-to-have anymore; it’s essential.

The stakes are high, but so is the potential. Let’s not let this moment pass by. Together, we can build something extraordinary: a united network driving MBE growth, fueling corporate success, and delivering a $1.5 trillion economic impact.

This chapter isn’t just ours. It’s yours. Let’s write it together.
