Reporting directly to the CEO & President and serving as an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President, Marketing & Communications (VP of Marcom) is responsible for developing and enhancing NMSDC’s strategic and events marketing efforts, communications, media and public relations strategy; that shapes the brand of our organization in an effective and sustainable manner. The VP of Marcom is accountable for developing the go-to-market vision, world-class communications plan, spearhead events and serve as an ambassador for the organization by building relationship with media to uniquely position NMSDC as the household brand. The VP of Marcom will drive the overall brand awareness of NMSDC; Increase visibility of the organization among various stakeholders; Create innovative ways to engage our constituents and attach them to programming that excites their interests and deepens their loyalties; and build a culture where the marketing, development and programming functions collaborate, and drive decisions informed by reliable market-tested data. An ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with demonstrated success in leading a marketing and communications team in the nonprofit and/or corporate sectors, should believe in NMSDC’s mission, highly motivated in advancing it further and extremely creative in scaling our organization’s influence and impact. Primary Responsibilities:

Brand Marketing:

  • Develop strategic marketing plans to support the organization’s mission, goals and objectives; including brand positioning, competitive market research to understand landscape and trends for greater market penetration
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a research-driven, evidence-based brand strategy that supports and leverages core operations
  • Act as NMSDC’s brand steward and develops its strategic direction. Ensure brand consistency in messaging, voice, and overall visual identity, to reinforce the brand value and its reflection in all initiatives across the networ

Events Marketing:

  • Spearhead NMSDC’s events and tradeshow marketing strategy including ideation, planning, design, and execution through innovation, and cross-collaboration across the organization.
  • Maintain and track metrics that are critical to the success of events, such as promotions, leads, audience engagement and ROI analysis. Assess new event opportunities, creative delivery methods (virtual/hybrid/destination) that drives increased awareness and impact for NMSDC

Strategic Communications & Public Relations:

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance NMSDC and its regional affiliates brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase visibility across key stakeholder audiences
  • Create marketing/public relations strategy that will allow NMSDC’s leadership to cultivate and
    enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the
    media and key influencers
  • Prioritize media opportunities, serve as a spokesperson, and lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization

Marcom Operations:

  • Oversee development of all digital and print communications including the annual report,
    marketing collateral materials, website and new media; managing relationships with vendors
  • Create systems that measure the effectiveness of marketing and communication strategies, streamline, and optimize day-day operations for maximum productivity

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build a team and promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set
    objectives, establish priorities and conduct annual performance appraisals
  • Create new pathways to growth by optimizing resources, strengthening partnerships, maximizing external impact, and focusing on the future

Qualifications:

  • Innovative and a critical thinker, with a track record of translating strategic thinking into action plans and results
  • Experience driving large scale events including driving sponsorships, audience acquisition strategy, content, and breakout strategy, and run of show. Programmatic knowledge is a plus
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top tier media folks, and in successfully positioning subject matter with media to achieve high-impact placements
  • Deep skills in external and internal marketing campaign development, execution, and leveraging data and analytics to improve results and increase ROI
  • An inclusive leadership style and outstanding management skills, experience in building, developing, and supporting high-functioning teams is essential
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical marcom initiatives
  • A strong communicator with executive presence and confidence to project credibility and able to interface with a variety of audiences, both internal and external
  • Proven success at developing and implementing digital marketing and social media strategies to enhance visibility, engagement, and brand loyalty
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications with solid understanding of key marketing and communication tools (e.g., web content management, event management and email systems, google analytics and other web metrics, adobe creative suite etc.)
  • Requires excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills; high ability to multitask
