Neta Scientific, a leading distributor of laboratory supplies, solutions, and safety products to the Life Science and Pharmaceutical industries, was awarded the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2020 Regional Subcontractor of the Year Award for Region II.
In making the announcement, SBA Regional Administrator Steve Bulger confirmed that the Hainesport-based company competed against several other firms from Region II, which encompasses New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands for the award.
According to Bulger, the Hainesport-based company was nominated for the award by Colleen Macia, Category Strategy Manager of Global Procurement at Pfizer Inc., one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies.
Neta Scientific, Inc. was selected for the award based on criteria that measure an organization’s technical and management capability; financial strength; customer interface and support; innovativeness of products or services offered; and the ability to deliver quality services and products on time and at a competitive price.
Established in 1999 by Co-Founders Winfred and Garnetta Sanders, Neta Scientific, Inc. provides its clients with superior lab supplies, personal protective equipment, and supply chain management services to the Pharmaceutical and Higher Education marketplace.
“To be nominated for this award by a global pharmaceutical company that recognizes our value, our attention to detail, and the quality of the products that we offer is such an honor for everyone here at Neta Scientific,” said Garnetta Sanders, CEO. “Our unique relationship with Pfizer and
our other customers has enabled us to build strategic partnerships. We see our company as an extension of their teams, allowing us to develop a niche in the pharmaceutical marketplace.”
“Many small businesses are unaware of the supplier diversity programs that major prime contractors like Pfizer have in place today,” said Bulger. “Pfizer is consistently in the Top 100 of prime contractors that provide hundreds of millions of dollars in subcontracts each year. They are to be commended for their commitment to giving small businesses like Neta Scientific, Inc. the opportunity to obtain subcontracting work that is so vital to the U.S. Government.”
During fiscal year 2019, the federal government exceeded its small business federal contracting goal, by awarding 26.50% or $133 billion in federal contract dollars to small businesses, a more than $12 billion increase from the previous fiscal year. In addition to the $133 billion in prime contract dollars awarded to small businesses, another $90.7 billion in subcontracts also went to small business owners nationwide.
“It’s important to recognize the achievements of small businesses like Neta Scientific,” said SBA New Jersey District Director Al Titone. “Through subcontracting opportunities, the Sanders with their 47 employees were part of a record-breaking one million jobs added to the American economy through federal contracts awarded to small businesses in 2019.”
Due to in-person restrictions brought on by COVID-19, the SBA Award was delivered to Neta Scientific’s headquarters.
“Diverse suppliers like Neta Scientific, Inc., prove there is space to compete for subcontracts from major prime contractors,” said Garnetta Sanders. “The certification that our company received from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), was essential to opening the doors to these contracting opportunities.”
“Our partners realize that a small business like Neta Scientific, Inc. can deliver with a big impact,” she added. “We are nimble, efficient, and provide access to industry-leading suppliers.”
Neta Scientific competed with nine other subcontractors across the country for the title of SBA’s 2020 National Subcontractor of the Year. The national award was presented to Monica Rommel Chief Executive Officer for Specialty Material Inc. of Lowell, MA, a woman-owned small business specializing in composite fiber and prepreg products used in aircraft, aerospace, sporting goods, and industrial applications. Rommel purchased SMI with her company, Global Materials, in 2019.
The announcement of the SBA National Subcontractor of the Year was made by SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza during virtual National Small Business Week ceremonies held in Washington, D.C. in September.
