NMSDC Acknowledges Howard Lutnick’s Confirmation as Secretary of Commerce

Advocacy

NMSDC acknowledges Howard Lutnick’s confirmation as Secretary of Commerce and his important role in shaping U.S. economic policy, trade, and business development.

For decades, NMSDC has had deep partnerships with the Department of Commerce, including the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), the International Trade Administration (ITA), and other key agencies, to expand opportunities for minority business enterprises (MBEs). These partnerships have helped strengthen supply chains, increase access to capital, and open new domestic and international markets—creating lasting economic impact.

The Department of Commerce has played a key role in fostering an environment where businesses can grow and compete. Research shows that companies with strong and competitive supplier networks are 70% more likely to enter new markets and 84% more likely to develop successful innovations. MBEs are a driving force in job creation and economic expansion, and their continued success strengthens American industry and global competitiveness.

As Secretary Lutnick takes office, we look forward to working together to advance policies that accelerate business growth, promote entrepreneurship, and remove barriers to opportunity—particularly in federal contracting, export markets, and high-growth industries. Ensuring businesses of all sizes can scale and compete will be vital to sustaining long-term economic prosperity.

NMSDC remains committed to advocating for policies that enhance economic resilience and drive business success. We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with Secretary Lutnick and his team to support the next generation of business leaders and foster a more dynamic and competitive economy.
