Psyche Terry, Zumba fitness instructor and mom of 3is the founder and brainchild behind UI Global Brands, a global manufacturer and nationwide marketer of consumer, personal care products under its keystone brand, Urban Hydration. Thousands of the company’s products are sold every day in approximately 9,000 U.S. retail locations, including Macy’s, CVS, HEB, Sally Beauty, and Target. What started as a solution for Psyche’s family, who all struggle with sensitive and dry skin, became a solution for millions!
Psyche is also known for her work in the intimate apparel market, as the first-ever designer to offer a G-cup sized bra, which was sold in Walmart locations across the United States. She led Walmart in not just larger sizes, but also its first insertion of different shades of brown bras for women of color, believing that women of all colors and sizes deserved to have a little lace. Psyche also pioneered the very first fashion plus-size lingerie brand for JCPenney and Macy’s.
Psyche calls herself a “better maker” and firmly believes that to whom much is given, much is required. Her success as an entrepreneur has allowed her the opportunity to delve into meaningful philanthropic work. In conjunction with UI Global Brands, Psyche leads a global partnership with WATERisLIFE, which helps areas around the world who are stricken with water scarcity. Most recently, the partnership funded a well in Kenya that helped provide 300 students access to clean water. Psyche also had the opportunity to join with media mogul Oprah Winfrey to raise money to feed the homeless in North Texas.
Knowing first hand that education is the linchpin of success, Psyche has endowed a $50,000 college scholarship for students majoring in Business at her alma mater, Western Michigan University. Psyche also serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County, TX, and the Western Michigan University President’s Society. She also started a youth mentorship program in her hometown of Benton Harbor, MI. The program’s success earned Psyche a Key to the City.
With success comes acclaim. Psyche has been profiled in Essence Magazine, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and on various, nationally syndicated radio stations like ESPN and Fox News. She was also interviewed on The Steve Harvey Show, during their Mystery Millionaire segment. Psyche has been featured in over 800,000 media posts and alerts in 2019, earning her a spot as an Influencer to Know in 2019. Psyche was honored as a leading woman in the retail industry by DSN magazine in 2019 and as “Woman Of The Year in Business” (2018) by Tene Nicole; as well as “Philanthropist of the Year” (2018) by CoSign Magazine. She also received the “Economic Empowerment Award of the Year” (2019) from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and is an INC 5000 Recipient for 2019. Psyche is a 2003 graduate of Western Michigan University. She received her MBA in 2009 from the University of Las Vegas and she is a 2016 alumnus of Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Business program. Psyche has been married to Vontoba Terry, Sr. for 14 years, and together, they are the proud parents of three wonderful children. The Terrys currently resides in Frisco, TX. They enjoy spending their time in service to their community.
