The Golden State Warriors recently won the Inclusive Innovation Award for its Franchise Fund, which was designed with assistance from the Western Regional Minority Supplier Development Council (WRMSDC). The award from the NBA recognizes a specific innovative program that advances inclusive practices and is evaluated against criteria related to the program’s innovation, inspiration, and impact.

The Golden State Warriors and National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) corporate member, United Airlines partnered to create the Franchise Fund. The program was designed with the help of WRMSDC to help minority-owned small businesses in the Bay Area become corporate-ready and provide them the resources to become certified as minority business enterprises (MBEs) by NMSDC. It eliminates many of the barriers small businesses face in the accreditation process by providing the training, funds, and resources necessary to receive MBE certification.

NMSDC is excited to see the Golden State Warriors recognized for helping MBEs receive the certification they need to grow their business. In addition, it applauds WRMSDC for all its work to help design this important program and help create greater generational wealth for systemically excluded communities of color.
