MBE Government Contracting Resources
The federal government holds the distinction of being the largest purchaser of goods and services globally, procuring a wide range of products and services such as software, building construction, financial services, and asset management. This vast procurement power presents a significant opportunity to promote equity and foster economic growth in underserved communities. However, it is concerning that less than 10 percent of federal agencies’ total eligible contracting dollars typically flow to small, disadvantaged businesses (SDB), a category that includes Black-owned, Latino-owned, and other minority-owned businesses.
Connecting You to Government Contracting
Increasing federal spending with underserved businesses not only supports aspiring entrepreneurs in realizing their business goals but also plays a crucial role in reducing persistent wealth disparities. Recent analysis from the White House Council of Economic Advisers, utilizing data from the Small Business Administration (SBA), reveals that differences in business ownership contribute to 20 percent of the wealth gap between average white and Black households. Recognizing the importance of this issue, the NMSDC MBE Center for Accelerated Growth Innovation and Resiliency is dedicated to providing our MBE constituents with access to essential resources through the capital readiness program, generously funded by the Minority Business Development Agency.
Please see below for various MBE government contracting resources.
Executive Office of the President (EOP)
The EOP has responsibility for tasks ranging from communicating the President’s message to the American people to promoting our trade interests abroad.
U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)
Browse or search for information by relevant agency. These pages provide reports, recommendations, curated information and summaries, videos, podcasts, blog posts, and more. Agencies are listed alphabetically by their formal name, with most agencies appearing under “Bureau,” “Department,” or “United States.”
Bureaus and Offices U.S. Department of Commerce
The Department of Commerce promotes job creation and economic growth by ensuring fair trade, providing the data necessary to support commerce and constitutional democracy, and fostering innovation by setting standards and conducting foundational research and development. Through our bureaus and 46,608 employees (as of January 31, 2018) located in all 50 states, every U.S. territory, and more than 86 countries, we provide U.S.-based companies and entrepreneurs invaluable tools through programs such as the Decennial Census, the National Weather Service, NOAA Fisheries, and the Foreign Commercial Service. Among many other functions, the Department oversees ocean and coastal navigation, helps negotiate bilateral trade agreements, and enforces laws that ensure a level playing field for American businesses and workers.
U.S. Government Acquisition Gateway Tool
The acquisition gateway tool provides a nationwide dashboard of upcoming federal contracting opportunities. All projected procurements are subject to revision or cancellation. Final decisions on the extent of competition, small business participation, estimated value, or any aspect of the procurement are made if/when a solicitation is posted to SAM.gov. Forecast data is for planning purposes only and is not a commitment by the Government to purchase the described products and/or services. Address questions regarding a planned procurement to the point of contact listed in the record.
Please direct questions related to the Forecast Tool to gateway@gsa.gov.
